WORKING HARD TO DO GOOD
HOW DOES THE "ART IS A NECESSITY" PROGRAM WORK?
Art of of Recycle's program involves providing free art materials to local organizations who are in need of art materials for their students/clients because their organization's activity programs do not include enough funds for needed art materials.
Any organization, teacher, caretaker or facilitator who is directly involved with providing arts and crafts activities for children, senior or people with special needs.
WHAT AND HOW MUCH CAN ART OF RECYCLE SUPPLY?
The process is simple:
Visit Art of Recycle and pre-register your organization at the register counter by showing ID and a business card or letter head with your organization's logo and EIN# if applicable. Ask to see the teachers resource area to check out the free supplies available to teachers.
We currently have large quantities of plastic plates, paper plates, styrofoam cups, tin trays, styrofoam trays, magnifying glasses, kids paint brushes, plastic disposable table covers, elmers glue, plastic containers, plaster of paris, pipe cleaners, plastic straws, cardboard tubes, paper flowers, paper prints of watercolor scenes, wood dowels, wood scraps, Popsicle sticks, wooden chop sticks, D sized batteries, mini light bulbs, food coloring, fabric scraps, fabric flowers, bubble wrap, snow cone cups, empty water bottles, small styrofoam balls, picture frames, ziplock baggies, plastic test tubes, plastic petri dishes, crayons, pencils, pens, markers, paper, construction paper, binders, folders, stickers, paints, scotch tape, scrapbooking paper scraps, notebooks, loose leaf paper, candle wax, wax paper, pipettes, light brights, index cards, egg cartons, ping pong balls.
Any other items would be limited to small quantities and what we would have on hand in our store. Art of Recycle sells the items in the store to create the funding necessary to keep Art of Recycle running properly. Spread the word to donate to Art of Recycle, because the more that we receive then the more we can help teachers get the materials that we need.
Teachers have limited budgets to spend on their students, many spend much of their personal income on school materials for their students. Some teachers have no budget at all, and some students have no form of paying for pencils or paper, the basic needs to earning an education. We provide these necessary materials to the teachers in our communities as far away as Virginia, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware and our own state of Pennsylvania. If they can drive to us then we can give them the materials that we have available.
We do not limit our program to only art teachers. Because Art of Recycle believes that art is a fundamental need, all students benefit from art in all classrooms. Art is probably one of the most stress relieving and therapeutic ways of healing your body and mind, it also assists in the development of critical thinking skills, yet we have discovered that many people in our local communities have no way of affording the necessity of art in their lives.
We believe that art and music belong in the same category as diet and exercise, and people who are robbed of the ability to create art because of economic hardship live a life of the lowest quality.
Art of Recycle is doing this because of YOU.
YOUR donations make it all happen.

Art of Recycle accepts almost everything when it comes to donations. Because we are an Art Center rather than a thrift store, stuff that you might normally consider junk could actually be a significant art material.
A simple way of judging what is a good item to donate is to determine whether it is re-usable in any form and the best way to do that is to look at the list of items we do not accept.
WE DO NOT ACCEPT:
Everything else we accept.
We are open 9am to 6pm Monday through Saturday. Closed Sunday.
Donations can be brought in through any door and left with our volunteers/staff. There is no limit on how much or how little you may donate.
Yes, we do pickups. Please call us or e-mail us to determine if you are within our travel area to arrange a pickup. We can assist with packing items as well as lifting/moving items if you are unable to do so.
JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING
We are often asked what are AoR's greatest needs:
Our greatest need is the funds to pay our staff.
We are looking for a panel van or small bus
We can never have enough googly eyes
Wine Bottles and Corks
There's a very short list of things that we don't accept at Art of Recycle.
Press Board Furniture
Moldy, Smoky or Smelly Things
Things that can be placed in your recycle bin
For everything else, we can find a use, or get it to an organization that can use it.
