AoR’s CEO asking Santa for more teaching resources

Free Crafting, Teacher Resources, Community Service

While AoR is best known for Ephrata’s thrifty craft store and free crafting areas, we have many programs that help disadvantaged people. AoR provides free resources to schools, we produce educational workshops, classes, field trips and job training opportunities. We triumph in teaching diverse learning skills.

Our Passion

Art of Recycle Mission Statement

To develop, heal and grow community through experiential learning and interactive instruction for the advancement of diverse learners. We aim to promote access and equality by assisting all people to be inspired and empowered by using discarded, unwanted, and excess items as learning tools; creating generations to come to be more environmentally and socially conscious.

Our philosophy is that art and music is the foundation to teaching math, science, reading, writing and sociology. Creativity belongs in the same category as preventive healthcare, diet and exercise, and people who are robbed of the ability to create art because of economic hardship live a life of the poorest quality.

Equality and the arts

What Does Art of Recycle Really Do?

What Does Our Mission Mean?

Art of Recycle Ephrata is not just your run of the mill community center and craft store. We are a unique educational center that interacts with local school districts and non-profit organizations. Providing additional job training services for students and adults, free of charge, using your donations as educational tools.

Your excess becomes free resources helping to provide programs that assist youth and adults who are less likely to succeed due to disabilities and disadvantages. We offer programs that are needed when the traditional educational system is not enough. Art of Recycle provides a low stress environment and a variety of learning situations that help people with high anxiety disorders to learn skills. We employ students who may not otherwise be able to be employed because their anxiety or learning disorders are not accepted within the current industry. Your donations, your social interactions, and your crafting and shopping experience are used as learning tools within our facility.

We are a place where people work together as a team, where everyone is accepted as they are, where people visit to make friends, where we heal and grow as a community.

Not Just A Craft Store

Art of Recycle is creating and developing an outreach program that could very well change the way people think about their stuff.

Visit us, see what we are doing in Ephrata, and find out how you can help to make our communities better. Team work is the only way to solve problems and create solutions.

The Art of Hope, aka Little Art Bank

In the summer of 2017, Art of Recycle was recognized in the Lancaster Chamber's magazine "Lancaster Thriving"

for winning the 2016 #ImpactLancaster challenge with our innovative and successful program "Art is a Necessity". Our program involves distributing free materials to teachers in need of school supplies . Our self-sustaining program has strengthened and developed every year since.

As of October 2021, Art of Recycle has opened a 2500 sf Teacher Resource Center in Ephrata PA. AoR’s free teacher resources are now located in its own facility, adjacent to Art of Recycle’s Thrifty Craft Store.

There is a $35 processing fee to access the resource center.

Our Foundation

Why We Exist

Our Philosophy

Our Philosophy

Art of Recycle is a grassroots project that began in 2008 with the simple idea of teaching people how to re-use the everyday items around them to create art rather than discarding unwanted items into the landfill. Not just any art, but useful art that people would treasure and utilize for years.

As our programs developed, we discovered ways of using the discarded materials to better our community through community service programs and volunteer opportunities that our volunteers and staff created, and ways to use the resources to help other organizations. AoR is a nonprofit organization.

Our Philosophy

Our Philosophy

Our Philosophy

Art is a fundamental need.

Art is probably one of the most stress relieving and therapeutic ways of healing your body and mind. Our nonprofit organization believes that art and music belong in the same category as diet and exercise, and people who are robbed of the ability to create art because of economic hardship live a life of the lowest quality.

We believe that uniting with other organizations, creating community service programs, job training and volunteer opportunities helps to create a stronger and healthier community.

Our Work

Our Philosophy

Our Work

Art of Recycle offers a free crafting area that is utilized by people of all walks of life. We facilitate intergenerational interactions by maintaining an environment in which young and old can enjoy together.

Disadvantaged teens, young adults and seniors benefit from our life skills, social skills and job skills programs.Your donations are used as tools in our workshops and craft store to help teach math, reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. We hire and train people who might not be employable due to their disadvantages.
